The basic story of Florence Nightingale is familiar to most nurses. This week we learned more about Nightingale’s life and work. Select at least one piece of the Nightingale legacy that was new to you and tell us how this changed your understanding of this great woman and her contributions to nursing.
I also found it very interesting of all the contributions that Florence Nightingale made in nursing. As you mentioned above, Nightingale collected data and analyzed it on every patient. She kept records of each patient and was able to tell when patients status changed. It molded to what nursing is today. We chart electronically and assess everything we see or do to patients so we know there baseline. I didn’t know this started from Nightingale. I also thought it was interesting that women like Nightingale were suppose to marry into money and focus on family and social matters rather than working but Nightingale was very focused on nursing. ” Nightingale’s mother, Frances (Fanny), was a conventional woman who strictly followed social norms and wanted her daughters to do the same.” ( Judd, 2013) I enjoyed reading your post!

Meet my deadline
It is so amazing all the things that Nightingale completed in her career. I did not realize all the things that she had done. I knew she was considered the “founder of modern nursing” but I did not realize that was due to she essentially implemented evidence based practice and did research into nursing something that was not done in her time. All the while being bed ridden and home bound at 38 but continued to do research and contribute to her profession, even without all the technology that we have today. Also despite being bedridden she lived to be 90 and was always a beacon of light up until her death. I think we can all live by her, despite anything we can not look ill upon ourselves we can continue to push and make our community better.
