Architect Daniel Libeskind is credited with saying “To provide meaningful architecture is not to parody history, but to articulate it.” The suggestion is that his work does not copy the efforts of others but relies on it.
Understanding the work of others is critically important to new work. Contributions to the nursing body of knowledge can happen when you are able to analyze and articulate the efforts of previous research. Research analysis skills are therefore critical tools for your toolbox.
In this Assignment, you will locate relevant existing research. You also will analyze this research using a tool helpful for analysis.

Week 4 | Part 4: Research Analysis
Nursing students doing their Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program should understand the healthcare environment and issues that impact care delivery like the emergence of infectious diseases as the case of the current Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic. The emergence of this condition has had profound effects on mental health for many individuals because of the restrictions of social movements and need to adjust to a different way of doing things (Muller et al., 2020). In this part, I highlight my topic of interest, which is the mental effects of Covid-19 and identify and discuss a peer-reviewed article on this topic. The second part offers a summary of my analysis based on certain questions.
Step 1: Research Analysis
Complete the table below
Topic of Interest:
Effects of Covid-19 on Mental Health on Healthcare Workers
Research Article: Include full citation in APA format, as well as link or search details (such as DOI)
Muller, R. A. E., Stensland, R. S. Ø., & van de Velde, R. S. (2020). The
mental health impact of the covid-19 pandemic on healthcare workers, and interventions to help them: A rapid systematic review. Psychiatry research, 113441. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.psychres.2020.113441
Professional Practice Use:
One or more professional practice uses of the theories/concepts presented in the article
The need to understand the mental effects of the Coronavirus disease pandemic is critical in appreciating efforts by providers to know how to handle patients and their families due to measures like isolation. One of the theories or concepts presented in the article is the need to have effective psychotherapeutic approaches to help healthcare workers deal with the pandemic as it has disproportionate effects on their health and wellbeing due to increased exposure to the disease. The authors are categorical that while psychotherapeutic interventions are essential, healthcare workers require occupational protection, enough rest and social support.
The concepts presented in the article demonstrate the need to protect physicians and other health care providers in getting interventions that mitigate the adverse effects of Covid-19 on their mental health (Muller et al., 2020). Practitioners can develop effective ways to offer support to health care workers struggling with the mental effects of the pandemic with the aim of inspiring and motivating them to understand

The study demonstrates the effects of Covid-19 on healthcare workers and the need to protect them from increased exposure.
The study uses systematic literature review which does not consider current views from healthcare workers affected by the pandemic.
The study is relevant to the topic as it addresses the critical mental issues that health care providers experience as they try their best to offer care to Covid-19 patients.
The research findings in the study are essential in understanding the underlying causes of mental health issues among health care workers during this pandemic.
The study shows that healthcare workers; mental health issues are associated with organization factors such as workload and exposure to Covid-19 patients
The study uses a methodology that is weak with low scores in the AMSTAR
The findings of this research forms the basis of different interventions based on evidence from multiple areas and specialties to enhance mental health for healthcare providers.
The study demonstrates the importance of having different interventions at various moments for organizations and providers.
The study uses systematic review approach based on protocols and validity.
The study requires effective analysis and use of evidence in specific areas when handling Covid-19 mental health issues for nurses and other healthcare providers.
The inclusion criteria employed by the study shows the need for researchers to go in depth to produce systematic reviews based on their topic of interests.
The need to understand the type of mental health care interventions in the study shows that it is does not address the salient aspects that lead to problems in care settings
Step 2: Summary of Analysis
The analysis of a peer-reviewed journal article is important in knowing issues that form the basis of one’s research. The implication is that one must have critical thinking abilities and use relevant analytical models associated with the study area or topic. Using these aspects, I focused on understanding the most important matters impacting healthcare providers during this pandemic. The study shows that despite their efforts as front line care providers in the fight against Covid-19, health care providers or workers bear the brunt of the pandemic and are disproportionately affected by its negative effects (Javed et al., 2020). They are more susceptible due to the nature of their work.
I employed different strategies to find a peer-review research article for the topic and other future studies that I will undertake in the MSN program. The first strategy in this case was the application of the right search words in different database to get the article. Secondly, finding peer-reviewed journals on the relevant issue enables one to get the best articles, particularly from primary research works. One can also employ various resources to access peer-reviewed research studies (Bhatt & Priya, 2018). Among these resources is Walden online library with journal databases from different areas and specialties. These include databases like Medline, Cochrane library and CINAHL plus among others.
Conclusion
Research analysis is an important part of the MSN program and nurse student should utilize the chance to improve their critical thinking abilities and analytical skills. The emergence of Covid-19 and its implications for healthcare workers’ mental health are critical issues that need research and application of better interventions to reduce the effects of the disease on the delivery system.

I chose this article because my area of interest is neurology. Working as a nurse in Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation for four years has made me very passionate about stroke patients. Many of our patients and their families are unaware of the causes of a stroke, how it happens, and the risk factors associated with it. Often the patient is distraught because they lose hope in their slow rehabilitation process. Providing my patients and their families with the correct information is practical to my practice. Educating my patients about lifestyle changes, and their new medication regimen is what I enjoy the most. This article explains a study to evaluate the diagnostic performance of NIHSS extinction and inattention item, compared to the results of the Oxford Cognitive Screen (OCS) heart subtest (Basagni et al., 2021). Having the knowledge of how this scale works is essential to evaluate the patient severity of an acute stroke. Educating the general public on the signs and symptoms of a stroke can help them act fast, to seek medical attention, lowering the severity of the stroke if caught on time.
The database used to find this article was CINAHL this database minimizes your search for your topic of search. I will recommend this database to my peers to use because it is the most used database for nursing articles and allied health. This database allows you to get the full context of the articles. I minimized my search by typing acute stroke rehabilitation. I ensure that I click peer review journals to the left-hand side, and that also minimized my search. The major difficulty I had while searching for the article was that when I opened the Walden Library from my student portal, It directed me to the page where I search journals & articles, I was typing my keyword on the first line, and nothing was showing. Then I scrolled down and saw that it says to find articles by keyword, and that’s when it directed me to EBSCO to find my article.
