A community needs assessment is utilized as a tool to identify a community’s inherent strengths and needs. The purpose of a needs assessment is to identify and address a community’s needs by building the communities internal capacity. This is usually accomplished by the development of new policies, health and/or social programs. Part 2 of the Needs Assessment project requires the project team to gather data about a community, identify the need through the analysis of data gathered from a windshield survey and literature, and identify how the need can be addressed through the development of a health and/or social promotion strategy.
