This article I chose describes moral courage in nursing as standing up for what nurses believe even when they may be standing alone (Journal of Nursing & Healthcare, 2017). I would describe moral courage as standing up for what is right even when it is the hard thing to do. In order to have moral courage, an individual must recognize and examine their values before an opportunity to act on them arises.
I would say that I have moral courage because I am willing to stand for my values and advocate for others even when it isnt the popular or common thing to do. I have exhibited moral courage in the past by discussing concerns about safety at work even though I knew it could harm a relationship with my coworker.

Moral courage is the ability to speak up on an issue no matter the risk to your reputation. The article chosen describes how nursing students are often faced with situations that involve moral courage and sometimes cause moral distress. In undergraduate nursing students, one of the issues that results in inaction the most often is when students doubt their own ability to speak up, where they instead keep quiet (Gibson et al., 2020). Using moral courage reduces moral distress. Moral distress is when a nurse knows the correct action to take but is resistant to taking action.
I would say that I do have moral courage in most situations. There are times where I am hesitant to speak up just due to the person I would have to do it to as they are not very responsive to student nurses. But, I have done it in the past and I made sure that the nurse was made aware of a necessary medication the patient needed but was not receiving. Although the nurse was agitated with me speaking up about her making a mistake, I was still able to speak up enough to do my part as a student with limited authority regarding patient care and medication administration.
