The purpose of this assignment is for you to give feedback to and receive feedback your peers on an early draft of your final paper (detailed instructions attached)
. Your draft and your review of your peers paper will not be graded for content, but will be checked for completion. The steps in this assignment are straightforward.
First, I want you to prepare a partial draft of your paper (at least 1000 words) to be reviewed by one of your peers.
This draft does not in any way need to be clean in the sense that it is a near-finished copy of a final paper, or even have a minimum of 1000 polished words. Everyone has a different writing process (as discussed in Module 2), so this draft can really be in any form that you would like it. For some of you, this might look like an early form of more polished writing, and for others it might be a strong outline with notes. For others it will be in between. The only thing that is required is that your draft must be your earnest attempt to construct an early version of your paper wherever you are in the process, and it must be at least 1000 words (not polished words, mind you, just a handful of pages illustrating your work to this point). Let it reflect your own process.
At the top of your draft document you must include Notes for the Peer Reviewer. In these notes, you must tell the reviewer (a) what you are concerned about in the draft and (b) what you are happy with or what you think works well. These notes are not part of the total word count.
Second, I want you to peer review another member of your cohorts draft. You will have 72 hours from the draft submission deadline to do so. Drafts are due September 26 at midnight; peer reviews should be submitted by September 29 at midnight.
In your peer review, you should give detailed feedback to the author. There is no minimum word count, but please do this assignment in earnest. Give your peer the kind of feedback you would want to receive to help improve their thinking. In doing so, you should:
· Provide them with a short summary (~1-3 paragraphs) summary of what you just read. Your paper argues that X. Specifically, it makes the case that A, B, and C. This is to help the author better understand how a reader is making sense of their argument, and to look for places that might need to be clarified;
· Comment on the areas identified by the author in their notes to the reviewer;
· Comment on anything else that seems pertinent from the Framework document in Module 1 (e.g., content, structure, form).
During this process, you should remember to be respectful and helpful. There is a fine line to walk. Dont be rude, disrespectful, or mean in any way. Keep it friendly! Also, remember not to be overly complimentary to a peers essay, either, because the goal is to help one another learn. Walk the fine line. Be kind. Be courteous. Be helpful!
