Christiana Care Health System is in Delaware and comprise of three hospitals. Headquartered in Wilmington, the trauma center in Newark, and the community hospital in Cecil County, Maryland. Evidence based practice is evident through the organization’s website. Within their professional practice model, it illustrates a tree with roots, a trunk, branches, and leaves. One of the leaves represents evidence-based practice. Christiana Care also established a professional governance structure with emphasizes on research and evidence-based practice, and it is overseen by a council comprised of registered nurses and nurse practitioners. According to CCHS (2022), “relationship-based care and interdisciplinary collaboration best benefit the patients and families we serve by encouraging the formulation of evidence-based clinical care standards leading to quality outcomes.”
Also, within the Christiana Care newsletters, CCHS (2022) states their focus on evidence-based practice is demonstrated throughout the correspondence and stresses the importance of following evidence-based best practices recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the support of the Delaware Division of Public Health.
Christiana Care’s work in clearly grounded in evidence-based practice, and their nurses are at the forefront of the research and practice initiatives. Their passion for research and what is learned from the results and drives their continuity of care. According to Crabtree et al. (2016) “staff nurses are a critical link in bringing evidence ‐ based changes into clinical practice, it occurs when they ask questions about treatments and care, have the resources and skills necessary to search for and appraise research evidence, implement the evidence in practice, and evaluate its effectiveness.”
Knowledge Gained
The knowledge gained from the information I received from the CCHS (2022) website is not what I expected. It changed my perception for the better and I have a deeper appreciation for the organization, and a greater respect with their openness on evidence-based practice.
Before the Covid 19 pandemic, their website did not go into detail, nor did it feel user friendly, welcoming, or informative; it was very bland. Now, the website is very welcoming, vibrant, and family centered. While going through the website, it is evident that CCHS valued the feedback of their patients and families, and they truly care about their community, and employees.

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is considered the gold standard of care, and as such, it is now an expectation of patients, regulatory agencies, and healthcare funders. Despite the abundance of research to inform clinical practice, many patients still fail to receive evidence-based care. Registered nurses deliver care to patients by using approved interventions. Nurses learn about evidence-based practice (EBP), which helps them pinpoint care procedures that can benefit their patients. In recent decades, EBP has become an essential component of exceptional patient care. NURS 6052 Where in the World Is Evidence-Based Practice? EBP in nursing is an integration of research evidence, clinical expertise, and a patient’s choices. This problem-solving approach to clinical practice supports nurses to provide individualized patient care (Duff, J., Cullen, L., Hanrahan, K. et al. 2020).
The organization that I have found to examine and analyze is Mayo Clinic. The organization is one of only 12 institutions in the U.S. currently designated and funded as an evidence-based practice center by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). The Evidence-Based Practice Research Program at Mayo Clinic research to evaluate and summarize all possible evidence on a particular health care issue. The team’s research process incorporates systematic reviews, meta-analysis, meta-regression, meta-narrative synthesis, clinical practice guidelines, and methodology research (Mayo Clinic, n.d.).

Evidence-Based Practice is grounded within this organization. A simple search within the website offers multiple examples of Evidence-Based Practice research and activities that they participate in to support Evidence Based Practice. They provide multiple webinars, educational videos, and research that supports their efforts to integrate EBP into nursing leadership. This organization’s evidence-based practice reviews all relevant scientific literature on a broad spectrum of clinical and health services topics to produce various evidence reports. The reports can inform and develop coverage decisions, quality measures, educational materials and tools, clinical practice guidelines, and research agendas. The centers also research the methodology of evidence synthesis (Mayo Clinic, n.d.).

I have been a part of many organizations and researched many, and this organization by far surpasses my expectations of a nursing organization. There is so much information, research, and education to be explored with this organization, and it goes along with my Nurse Executive program. I feel it will increase my knowledge for my current and future positions and this nursing program.

Initial Discussion Post:
In this week’s post, I will be discussing the World Health Organization or WHO for short. WHO is a universal health organization that works worldwide to promote overall health and wellbeing, to keep the world safe and healthy, and to serve the vulnerable population. WHO is known as being a credible source of reliable health information and an excellent resource to those who are in need. The WHO works continuously to address many issues pressing the world’s population such as human capital across the life-course, noncommunicable disease prevention, mental health promotion, climate change, antimicrobial resistance, and the elimination and eradication of high impact communicable diseases (Douglas & Murphey, 2020).
On the “About WHO” section under “What we do” on the WHO’s website, a clear goal of the organization is established along with certain visions that the organization has. The website states “Our goal is to ensure that a billion more people have universal health coverage, to protect a billion more people from health emergencies, and provide a further billion people with better health and well-being.” (N.A., 2020).
The WHO is certainly grounded in evidence-based practice or EBP. As defined as a conscientious, problem solving approach to clinical practice that incorporates the best evidence from well designed studies, patient values and preferences, and a clinician’s expertise in making decisions about a patient care. EBP is designed to enhance healthcare quality, improve patient outcomes, reduce costs, and empower clinicians (Lange, Lovesth, Teoh, Christensen, 2020). The WHO is designed on these principals to ensure the utmost quality of care worldwide to all people.
The information that I have obtained for this post has made me look differently at the world health organization. To be honest, I was not as informed about this healthcare organization as I now am. I was unaware of what all the WHO provided. I think that it is such a great organization and I am happy that their main focus is towards those in more vulnerable situations. They also are big in addressing health emergencies such as the current COVID-19 pandemic and work diligently with other healthcare organizations such as the CDC in investigating and implementing the best course of action.

Evidence-based practice (EBP) has become an essential component to health care practices and organizations over the past decade. EBP “enhances healthcare quality, improves patient outcomes, reduces costs, and empowers clinicians; this is known as the quadruple aim in healthcare” (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2018, p. 7). By referring to evidence from past studies as well as using clinical decision making and a well-established knowledge base, doctors and healthcare providers can make educated decisions for their patients.
Organizations, alike, use evidence-based practice to stay up to date and relevant in health care. While reading my textbook, I came across the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). PCORI is a federally funded initiative authorized by Congress in 2010 to “conduct research to provide information about the best available evidence to help patients and their healthcare providers make more informed decisions” (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2018, p. 15). PCORI works to help patients and consumers by ensuring evidence-based practice is being used for informed decision making. To do this, PCORI works with healthcare stakeholders to identify critical research questions and answer them through comparative clinical effectiveness research focusing on outcomes important to patients (PCORI.org, n.d.).
Evidence-based practice is evident throughout the PCORI website. Under the research tab of the website, “Putting Evidence to Work” is a section to click on with further information on how evidence is used by the organization. Under the impact tab of the website, three subheadings titled “Evidence Updates”, “Evidence Maps and Visualizations” and “Evidence Synthesis” can be clicked on with further, updated information on recent evidence-based studies and their impact on healthcare. The PCORI website is completely grounded in EBP and supports evidence-based practice to the full extent. Reading about the PCORI initiative on its website has changed my perception in a positive light. I fully intend to use evidence-based practice throughout my profession as I believe it leads to improved patient safety and outcomes. The PCORI initiative is an excellent addition in working towards the quadruple aim.

I had never seen this organization until looking it up after your post. This is a great organization for several fields of study. Promoting the uptake of research findings is part of PCORI’s legal mandate to improve the quality and relevance of evidence available to help patients, caregivers, clinicians, and others make better-informed health decisions. (PCORI, 2020) This is a great resource for both health care workers and patients. Evidence-based practice should be not only used in our daily work but should be explained to our patients. Knowing that we are up to date on best practices helps to provide a sense of safety to our patients. PCORI funding will support health systems in initiating these changes within their care delivery settings and in evaluating the impact of these changes. (PCORI, 2021) Institutions should use evidence-based practice and participate in evidence-based practice daily.

Seasons Hospice and Palliative care is an organization that serves patients who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness- specialized care and support is provided to families and patients that are cared for. Upon exploring within the website, this particular company has also paired with AccentCare for a community-based program that is non-profit and is ranked the fourth largest hospice company in the United States. This organization was founded in 1991 and “utilizes the highest level of technology available to hospice industry ad full implementation of document imaging with custom scheduling tools for physicians and field staff.” (About Us, 2021). The patient can receive care at all times from registered nurses for symptom management or any needed questions.
Evidence-based practice (EBP) is warranted to have the best clinical outcomes and be the “true best” patient care. Often in healthcare, I reflect on what I would want for my loved ones and what expectations and needs would be sought after, that is, evidence-based practice. EBP should be the rule, not the exception or a choice for healthcare delivery. EBP “improves healthcare quality, reliability, and patient outcomes and reduces variations in care and costs, but it is still not the standard of care delivered by practicing clinicians across the globe” (Melnyk et al.,2014, p. 7).
Upon evaluation of Seasons Hospice website, I discovered that within the vision and philosophy/goals of care, they have informed to “strive for excellence beyond accepted standards, and increase the communities awareness of hospice as part of the continuum of care.” They also discuss ensuring quality care with joint expertise that is dignified and elevates care to the next level (About Us, 2021). The company also wants to stress that it aims to be personalized and match the patients’ needs and family support. Throughout navigating the entire website in the organization, they do not clearly state that Seasons utilizes evidence-based practices. Still, when reading the vision, mission, and philosophy, the foundation of this organization is providing and defining evidence-based practice care.
This organization is grounded in EBP for the mission and vision/philosophy of the entire company encompasses the theory behind the evidence-based practice. They implement these throughout Seasons through the policies and procedures in place. Aligning the competencies needed for cultivating EBP within the organization ensures success and proper implementation, where patient-centered care focuses on teamwork and collaboration, quality improvement, and safety (Melnyk et al.,2014, p. 7 ). These components are aware throughout the website and are aimed and known for the reader to gather quickly about this particular organization.

Being such an established and founded organization, they have exceptional technological advancements that allow them to be highly skilled and modern to any available advances. According to Worldviews on EBP, the nursing part of EBP needs is the ability to have the resources and skills necessary to search for and appraise research evidence to implement in practice( Crabtree et al.,2016, p.172). The probability of success and the main reason EBP is paramount is when the team within the organization, including every discipline, is just as invested and involved in sharing the same care goals.
Hospice has requirements for a meeting with the medical director, LPN, RN, Social worker, chaplain, and even family members can be invited to these meetings to discuss the patient plan of care, outcomes, and needs. It only leads me to firmly take a stance that this particular organization is grounded in EBP. I also found that they aim to educate the staff and have continuing education courses frequently for first-class education to better care and outcomes. There were positive correlations between EBP beliefs and EBP implementation in the study conducted–which CE courses are needed to have the competencies and skills necessary to make that correlation accurate (Sikka,2017).
Personally, having a background in hospice by working for a different organization within the field, I had a basis of knowledge regarding the type of care provided as a whole encompasses and requires to provide EBP. It truly is what brought me out of the hospital setting and more focused and seeking hospice care because it focuses on the reasons why I became a nurse in the first place. Ensuring I was giving the best optimal care possible and being a lifelong learner who put my patients and families first was essential to me. I always wanted to continue my research and ensure my patients’ safety at all times.
I feel that hospice care is just that because EBP is followed in hospice care. In the hospital, it has become how fast you can get out of the room to the next patient and make sure that you get everything done on that checklist. Upon exploring this website, it is evident that this healthcare organization is complex and filled with quality care. Upon reading the countless testimonials, you can see the difference hospice makes to provide holistic care supporting through every stage during the end of life. Upon reading the website, it made me further become passionate about hospice and proud to be a hospice RN who can provide EBP care.
