exploring the topic of patient safety for a number of years and has been
applying her research findings across international boundaries. Consider your
topic of interest and the purpose for exploring this topic. What outcomes would
you like to see emerge from this? How would you measure these outcomes? Include
in your discussion an analysis of how Aiken measured her selected outcomes.
Evidence-based practice (EBP) refers to the conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients or clients (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2018). It not only combines clinical knowledge with top external clinical evidence derived from systematic research, patient values and preferences, and the environment in which treatment is delivered. In order to direct clinical decision-making and enhance patient outcomes, EBP encourages utilization of research findings, quality improvement data and expert consensus.

In order to address concerns related to nursing care and increase nursing knowledge, it is crucial to make sure that a PICOT question is based on a nursing practice problem. Nurses can investigate interventions, outcomes, and nursing-sensitive indicators that directly affect patient care and nursing practice by developing a PICOT question based on a nursing practice problem.
