Feb 23, 2024 NURS 8002 Assignment Linking Areas of Focus Into Future Plans for the DNP

A Sample Answer For the Assignment: NURS 8002 Assignment Linking Areas of Focus Into Future Plans for the DNP
The increased need for better patient care has only led to the need to give nurses better training. Therefore, the Doctor of Nursing program has played a central role in preparing nurses to offer better care and improve nursing knowledge (McCauley et al., 2020). Indeed, the DNP programs have been designed to spur nurses towards accomplished scholars and scientists through the research process, professional development, and scientific content.
Central to the completion of a DNP program at Walden University is the requirement that a nursing student undertakes both a practicum and a doctoral project. The completion of the practicum and doctoral projects aligns with the achievement of the AACN DNP essentials. Therefore, the aim of this week’s assignment is to discuss how completing the DNP project and practicum experience aligns with the AACN DNP Essentials.
The AACN DNP Essentials and Completion of the Doctoral Project
The eight AACN DNP essentials have been key in the training of nurses to become DNP-prepared professionals. While several of the essentials align to the completion of the doctoral project, some are more aligned than others. One of such is the first essential “Scientific underpinnings for practice” (Spencer, 2019). As part of the training, the DNP student is expected to explore various nursing theories and apply the same in the projects as frameworks.
Such frameworks form a key foundation that then fosters the completion of the projects. In addition, the DNP student develops sufficient skills to use and apply scientific concepts in evaluating care to foster healthcare delivery and patient care. During my project, I will focus on improving patient outcomes using the scientific underpinnings for practice. The end result is improved care standards and better patient outcomes.

The other essential is the fourth essential, “Information systems/technology and patient care technology for the improvement and transformation of health care” (Spencer, 2019). Advances in technology and technological applications imply that technology and technological applications form part and parcel of most of the DNP projects.
Therefore, the DNP candidates engage in various applications such as technology-based healthcare equipment, nursing informatics, and other process and quality improvement technological applications.
NURS 8002 Assignment Linking Areas of Focus Into Future Plans for the DNP
The engagements enable the DNP candidate to better understand technology and horn technological skills to improve patient care. During the doctoral project, I envision using various technological applications and already invented healthcare technology equipment for quality improvement.
The other essential is essential number six, “Interprofessional collaboration for improving patient and population health outcomes” (Spencer, 2019). The completion of the project requires that the DNP student engages with other professionals in the healthcare field to ensure that the patients get better outcomes. For instance, in ensuring that mental health patients have better patient outcomes, the DNP candidate, through the project, may have to collaborate with doctor specialists in mental health, psychologists, and counselors to define better strategies for better outcomes.
When the student complete the DNP project, they acquire relevant collaboration skills to undertake future collaborative engagements and ensure improved patient outcomes. During the project, I will be expected to identify a potential practice gap that can be addressed to improve patient outcomes or process outcomes. As such, successful identification of such a gap and eventually addressing it will align to the sixth DNP essential.
The AACN DNP Essentials and Completion of Practicum
The identified essentials also relate to the completion of practicum experience. During the practicum sessions, a student gets a chance to interact with patients in real-life settings and apply what has been gained through training (Valdres & Smith, 2019). Various activities happen during practicum; for example, by undertaking efforts to address higher rates of hospital readmissions among mental health patients, there is an alignment to the scientific underpinnings as the student has to apply strategies that have been scientifically proven.
“Interprofessional collaboration for improving patient and population health outcomes” (Spencer, 2019) also relates to the completion of practicum experience. The DNP candidate has to collaborate with various individuals in the practicum setting for a complete and enriching experience during the practicum. For example, in offering care to mental health patients, collaboration with various professionals in the practicum setting is in ensuring that the candidate performs relevant care actions that can positively influence the patient’s health.
Again, the essential, “Information systems/technology and patient care technology for the improvement and transformation of health care” (Spencer, 2019), also relates to the completion of practicum experience in that during practicum, the DNP candidate is expected to use various technology and technological applications to improve patient outcome.
For example, the use of various patient monitoring devices and applications. The use of various technological applications in the practicum setting will therefore help in transforming health care and improving patient care practices and processes.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the AACN DNP essentials have formed an integral part of the DNP training since its inception. Therefore, by completing practicum experience or DNP project, such a completion by the DNP candidate more or less aligns to the DNP essential. Therefore, this assignment has explored essentials number one, four, and six as the essentials that the completion of the project mostly aligns to.

AACN DNP Essentials That Most Align to a Doctoral Project Completion
The enactment of the eight DNP essentials has been central to the competencies and curricular elements for the DNP course. These essentials align with the completion of the doctoral project completion. One of the AACN DNP essentials that align with completing a doctoral project, in general, is the scientific underpinnings for practice (Spencer, 2019).
During a DNP project, nursing students engage in thorough scrutiny of the middle-range nursing theories and their potential application in the DNP project and as leading frameworks. These theories then form the foundation for the DNP projects to build and spur such projects to completion. When a nursing student completes a DNP project, the individual is in a position to utilize science-based concepts towards the evaluation and enhancement of patient care, health care delivery and ensure that the patient outcomes are at acceptable standards.

Essential VII, “Clinical Prevention and Population Health for Improving the Health of the Nation,” is the other DNP requirement that fits with the completion of a doctoral project (Jenkins, 2018). This essential says that a DNP student needs to think about quality improvement as an important part of practice to help stop diseases and infections and improve the health of the whole population.
During a DNP program, students work on projects that tend to find gaps, improve clinical outcomes, lower risks, and treat different diseases (Valdres & Smith, 2019). The implication is that these students need to know how to correctly evaluate and interpret information about the environment, workplace, biostatistics, and epidemiology in order to improve the health of communities and individuals.
So, when a DNP student finishes a DNP project, the projects they have already done give them the skills they need to lead strategies to fix preventable health problems in the population that cause death and disability.
NURS 8002 Assignment Linking Areas of Focus Into Future Plans for the DNP
The third AACN DNP project that aligns to the completion of doctoral project completion is essential IV “Information systems/technology and patient care technology for the improvement and transformation of health care” (Ahmed et al., 2018). In the era of technology, almost all the DNP projects to be undertaken by DNP students are technology-based or use some form of technology, ranging from informatics, healthcare technological equipment to technologies that improve the efficiency of staff (Valdres & Smith, 2019).
During the process of completing the DNP project, nursing students use patient care technologies and information to enhance clinical decision-making and practice leadership. In addition, such projects also enable the DNP students to sufficiently understand the technology and technological applications and skills to foster technological innovation. Besides, they can assess healthcare customer information, gauge its appropriateness, and fine-tune operations to improve care.
You are exactly right. Nurses outside of mental health tend to not know how to handle patients with mental illness in its acute form. I remember my first acutely mentally ill patient in the ICU. I (we) did not know what to do. He was placed in 4-point leather restraints. When I think back on that time now, I feel horrible that we didn’t do a better job of taking care of him.
I applaud you for wanting to implementing crisis prevention intervention training in the emergency department to improve patient outcomes in nonmental health settings. Perhaps, it could eventually spread throughout the hospital as well. From my experience, it is needed and necessary. And as a DNP-prepared nurse, you will have acquired the skills necessary to be successful at implementing such change (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2006).
Employers have identified DNP-prepared nurses as leaders, having a positive impact on patient outcomes, as role models, and improving organizational systems by introducing more effective care delivery models (Beeber, Palmer, Waldrop, Lynn, & Jones, 2019).
Good Luck with your project!

COLLAPSE
This is insightful. Nursing as a profession has come a long way and continues to grow.  It is important to acknowledge its growth. Academic advancement is necessary in the nursing practice due to the emerging practices in healthcare. Holding advanced degrees in nursing is necessary in facilitating research processes geared towards delivering quality healthcare processes (Bowie et al., 2019).
Besides, advanced practice nurses can take leadership roles to transform different processes aimed at improving general healthcare delivery. Advanced practice nurses can also be engaged in the educational processes to try and transform research in medicine (McCauley et al., 2020). Continued education has always been informed by different factors including the desire to acquire advanced knowledge and experiences in the medical practice.
Also, advancement in nursing education stem from the healthcare industry where there is continued need for research and evidence-based practices. For example, pandemic requires more from each of us every day, especially those of us in healthcare.   There are nurses being cross-trained in preparation for the worst-case scenario, making these essential workers more essential (Evans, 2021).

Weeks 4–5: AACN Essentials for the Doctorally Prepared Nurse
[The AACN DNP] Essentials outline the foundational competencies that are core to all advanced practice roles, including the four nationally-recognized Advanced Practice Registered Nursing roles: nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, nurse anesthetists, and nurse midwives.— American Association of Colleges of Nursing (2006)
What does it mean for a nurse to have a DNP? What is the most important part of advanced nursing practice that you want to do after you get your DNP? How will getting a DNP make you a better nurse?
You may have decided to get a DNP because you were thinking about things like these. As a nurse with a DNP, you will probably be asked to use advanced nursing practice skills that not only improve care for patients but also affect how healthcare is delivered, organizational standards, and quality improvement efforts.
This week, you think about what a nurse with a practice doctorate does and what you can expect from someone with a DNP degree. You think about why you want to get a PhD and start to look at how your proposed Doctoral Project and practicum/field experience will fit with the AACN DNP Essentials.
