This course will focus on methods of health history taking, physical examination skills, documentation, and health screening. The course emphasizes the individual as the client, functional health patterns, community resources, and the teaching learning process. This course will take us through infancy to an older adult.
To find course material, go under your Dashboard, then you will see PATH. There are two links to find information regarding this course; course material and syllabus.
The course material tab shows what textbook is used for this class.
The syllabus will show what this course is, the assignments for the course, the topics of the course, the grading system, and how to refer to the student policy handbook. **there has been some problems downloading the syllabus, thus the PATH is also the syllabus…but 1 week and topic at a time.
Under your Assignments, will have the due date and the rubric posted to look at.

Course Description:
This course uses the nursing process with an emphasis on assessment, based on General System Theory, to determine the health status of diverse individuals across the lifespan. Communication skills, interview techniques, health history, and physical exam skills are introduced. Opportunities to apply health assessment skills, documentation, and critical thinking for nursing care planning are provided.
Prerequisite: BIO 2281; Admission to Upper-Division Nursing

Comfortable clothing should be worn in the lab for health assessment practice
Ladies (sports bra, modest shirt, shorts, or pants) Gentlemen (shorts, pants, T-shirt)
Read assigned material and review appropriate videos prior to class
Attend scheduled classes
Be prepared and participate in the class discussion
Complete all assignments by identified due dates
Students are encouraged to spend at least one additional hour in lab practicing skills each week. Lab hours will be posted. May schedule with lab coordinator for additional practice.

Check email and access Canvas daily.
Attendance is required in class and skills lab. All excused absences from class must be reported prior to the absence. Tests will only be made up for excused absences and must be made up within one week. The format of the makeup exam will be at the discretion of the professor. Those students who are late for a test will also be required to take a make-up test. Tardiness is considered to unprofessional behavior. Leaving class before it is over is in the same category as tardiness.
If a student is tardy or absent he/she is responsible for arranging in advance with a classmate to obtain class notes and any handouts. Two points per day will be deducted from the overall grade for lab absences. Two tardies equal one absence.
It is expected that students will review, as needed, content from previous courses that have application to the current nursing topics (e.g. anatomy/physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, human growth and development, etc.).
Ethical Behavior: Nursing is a profession with a Code of Ethical conduct. Therefore, ethical behavior is expected of nursing students. You are responsible for your own work and for presenting it with the sources referenced appropriately according to the APA Publication Manual.
Cell phones should be turned off or on the silent mode during class. Students may only leave the class to respond to a phone call in an emergency situation.

You will take a complete health history on a classmate, family member, or friend and document as instructed.
