Nursing informatics course has been very informative.  Many tasks nurses accomplished when at work are based on informatics.  As I reflect on the class, I understand how its outcomes were all explored within the different assignments completed each week.  The assigned activities involved terms and expressions specific to informatics, healthcare informatics, and nursing informatics that relate to quality health outcomes.  As an example, I would like to evoke one of the terms considered.  Electronic medication administration records allow healthcare professionals to track patients’ medications from order to administration to prevent errors and achieve optimal health.  Computer technologies allow for data analysis that promote delivery of effective nursing care.  Data captured through informatics are used for research development and initiation of healthcare process that benefits the population.  Through data mining researchers consider collected data for process improvements in healthcare practice (Hayhurst, 2015).  Many of our assignments shows how through information and communication technologies nurses can share and receive data that help in establishing health and wellness.  The second life assignment has allowed us to go, experience, and practice in a virtual world.  This assignment brought us in contact with trending applications developed within informatics to reinforce our technological skills and development.  We have also seen the issues with privacy, confidentiality, identity theft that can result from the implementation of electronic health information exchange.  Despite the issues we can conclude that the benefits of informatics outweigh the risks.

Improving patient care is the number one goal of the healthcare industry. One of the ways to achieve this goal is to ensure that medical staff on every level is well-trained in their specialties and information and communication technologies (ICTs). Direct care givers are especially important in the aim to improve patient care because they can provide patient-centered healthcare, improve quality of care by becoming cross-trained in other nursing specialties, and educate health professionals and patients about healthy living, disease management, and preventative care (Rouleau, Gagnon, & Côté, 2015). FNP nurses make up the largest nursing health provider group in the United States, and the implementation of ICTs by FNP nurses can directly and indirectly improve the care they give to patients (Rouleau et al., 2015). Implementation of ICTs has proven difficult because it involves changes in attitude at different levels: patients, healthcare providers, and healthcare organizations (Rouleau et al., 2015). Nurses can help encourage these groups embrace the incorporation of ICTs into the healthcare industry. As the largest and most influential group of healthcare providers, nurses should be trained in four types of ICTs primarily used by nurses: management systems, communication systems, information systems, and computerized decision support systems (Rouleau et al., 2015). After these systems have been learned, the goal is to include training in nursing management systems, educational systems, and telephone systems (Rouleau et al., 2015).

You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.
Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.
Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.
The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.

Communication is so very important. There are multiple ways to communicate with me:Questions to Instructor Forum: This is a great place to ask course content or assignment questions. This will be checked at least once every 24 hours.
There were a total of eight course outcomes that were covered at the beginning of this class. Vocabulary was discussed as we had our informatics vocabulary quiz earlier in this class. We read and had a 25 question quiz that differentiated between informatics, healthcare informatics, nursing informatics, and other important terms. With this, we were able to distinguish terminologies. We discussed how informatics and technologies were implemented into our current practices. We discussed security breaches and things that could go wrong with data systems and how to safeguard. We researched current healthcare topics related to technology. We found informatics topics that were meaningful to our practice, and that had the potential to help our professions grow. We also covered project management and informatics skills. We integrated technology and learning into our scavenger hunt. Most importantly, we got to see ways other hospitals and classmates implement informatics to perform quality patient care. These course outcomes encompass just the basis of what we learned in the past eight weeks. It was an exciting semester. I knew that charting was a big part of nursing, but I had no clue how important technology was to healthcare until this class opened my eyes. I am also posting my healthcare IT powerpoint. Unfortunately, my microphone was broken and narration did not work. I look forward to working with you guys in future classes.
