Hello Atem, Great discussion post. I believe the impact of nursing informatics will continue to grow to improve efficiency, accessibility, and patient safety. Additionally, Nurse informaticists will continue to capture the care accurately provided to the patients.
Furthermore, as the role of informatics expands, it will impact care by fostering collaboration amongst other healthcare professionals using audit tools, improving the care delivered and patient outcomes. The continual development of nursing informatics as a Subfield and the ongoing appearance of new technologies has enormous potential to enhance quality professional relationships.
For instance, improved nursing informatics would provide quicker, more convenient, and more open channels for professionals to share information and collaborate on patient care. Likewise, if our hospital’s health information systems could be enhanced in any way, nurses could do their jobs more effectively, reducing stress levels for everyone.

Staff and other professionals would have more time for personal and social connections if they were relieved of some of their responsibilities (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2022). Nature offers many examples of specialization and collaboration. Ant colonies and bee hives are but two examples of nature’s sophisticated organizations. Each thrives because their members specialize by tasks, divide labor, and collaborate to ensure food, safety, and general well-being of the colony or hive.
Of course, humans don’t fare too badly in this regard either. And healthcare is a great example. As specialists in the collection, access, and application of data, nurse informaticists collaborate with specialists on a regular basis to ensure that appropriate data is available to make decisions and take actions to ensure the general well-being of patients.
In this Discussion, you will reflect on your own observations of and/or experiences with informaticist collaboration. You will also propose strategies for how these collaborative experiences might be improved.

Personal Experience of Nurse Informaticists
The latest technological developments are infiltrating into the healthcare industry. The significant disruption is in handling health records, which are now stored, processed, and analyzed by computerized systems. I have learned of this growing branch of nursing while working as an intern at a local medium-sized public hospital in my home state.
The healthcare facility, which has a bed capacity of 300 patients, has adopted diverse computer platforms in its instrumentation, record keeping, and communication among health personnel. I was attached to the general ward as a nursing assistant, but I could notice all the functions of the new nursing branch (nurse technician) in assisting other medical professionals and improving patient outcomes.
My first observation was that nurse technologists compiled, organized, and recorded patients’ data in formats that were secure and easy to access. In such a way, my supervisor would easily retrieve the medical history and lab results of a particular patient via her tablet, analyze the information, and communicate with the physician on the best medical procedures.
For example, the nurse technologist intervened in the treatment of a pneumonia patient who was prescribed tetracycline medication and was allergic to it. The nurse technologist discussed the matter with the physician and pharmacists and resorted to using the alternative Fluoroquinolone, which resulted in a better health outcome. In such a way, healthcare professionals have to use technological information about patients to decide on medicine prescriptions.
Nursing informatics will continue to grow in the healthcare industry. Professionals are interacting with physicians, pharmacists, hospital administrators, and nurses to improve patient outcomes and facilities’ operations. In the future, the impact of the discipline will be evident among data analysts and data scientists.
The 2016 International Conference in Nursing Informatics recognized the application of big data in nursing (Norwich University Online, 2019). Thus, the future impact of nursing informatics will entail advanced analytics such as data mining, data harmonization, and language processing, which will improve customized healthcare, contribute to efficient preventive healthcare options, and manage global epidemics.

I am grateful for this, and I completely agree with you. The field of nursing informatics is vital to all other aspects of healthcare. I agree with your statement about where issues may arise when nurses are not familiar with the use of technology, and I appreciate you bringing this situation to light. Ironically, the primary purpose of nursing informatics is to make things easier. I also appreciate you bringing this situation to light, considering that it is possible for problems to arise when nurses are not familiar with the use of technology. It is true that some nurses have a reputation for having weak skills and knowledge, and when they struggle with adaptation, it takes a significant amount of time away from their being able to care for patients. As a registered nurse, I worked in a hospital where I encountered a situation that was quite familiar to me: a nurse was very confused about her impending career with telemedicine. According to a reliable source from 2015, “nursing informatics, the integration of nursing science with data and information sciences to enhance nursing practice and patient care, faces several issues: developing facility-specific policies and procedures regarding the use of the informatics system, training system users, etc..”
For upcoming shifts, I would like to add that nurses need to be able to adapt to certain new technologies because the clinical information storage of protected health information is really important. This is something that I would want to add. For instance, hand-held computers are required to incorporate a validated security measure in order to thwart any intrusion by an unauthorized party. An article claims “HIPAA increasingly governs decisions made in information technology. Informatics professionals need to know how to implement high-grade security and encryption in their systems in order to protect records from hackers or theft. This is the primary way that the law affects the health informatics profession”. This reference to HIPAA, demonstrates that the healthcare industry is super dependent on nurses to learn these skills, as their patient information is meant to be safe in their hands. After all, the main goal of Nursing Informatics as mentioned “Goal of informatics is to improve the health of populations, communities, families, and individuals by optimizing information management and communications” (ANA 2008 p.1)
You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort, and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized.
Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in, and make corrections as necessary. Often, having a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors is advantageous. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.
Use a standard 10 to 12-point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. Letting your essay run over the recommended number of pages is better than compressing it into fewer pages.
Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.
The paper must be neatly formatted and double-spaced with a one-inch margin on each page’s top, bottom, and sides. When submitting a hard copy, use white paper and print it out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.
I agree with you that technology has made patient care much more safe and effective. Nurse informatics is an advanced nursing specialty that uses nursing information systems and computers to interpret data well (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2018). Informatic nurses of all levels practice at the intersection of technology and clinical practice. They play a significant role in promoting efficiency in the delivery of care and improving the general quality of care of the patient. According to the Scope and Standards of Nursing Informatics (2015), “nurses are skilled in managing and communicating information and are always concerned with content quality” (p.3). EHR implementations have been a great help for us nurses regarding our general nursing practice, from assessments, documentation, interventions, and research. Many organizations nowadays recognize the need to cultivate resources for data and information and tailor them according to their needs or workflow (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2018).

Discussion Questions (DQ)
Initial responses to the DQ should address all components of the questions asked, include a minimum of one scholarly source, and be at least 250 words.
Successful responses are substantive (i.e., add something new to the discussion, engage others in the discussion, well-developed idea) and include at least one scholarly source.
One or two-sentence responses, simple statements of agreement or “good post,” and off-topic responses will not count as substantive. Substantive responses should be at least 150 words.
I encourage you to incorporate the readings from the week (as applicable) into your responses.
Weekly Participation
Your initial responses to the mandatory DQ are graded separately and do not count toward participation.
In addition to the DQ responses, you must post at least one reply to peers (or me) on three separate days for three replies.
Participation posts do not require a scholarly source/citation (unless you cite someone else’s work).
Part of your weekly participation includes viewing the weekly announcement and attesting to watching it in the comments. These announcements are made to ensure you understand everything due during the week.
APA Format and Writing Quality
Familiarize yourself with the APA format and practice using it correctly. It is used for most writing assignments for your degree. Visit the Writing Center in the Student Success Center, under the Resources tab in LoudCloud, for APA paper templates, citation examples, tips, etc. Points will be deducted for poor use of APA format or absence of APA format (if required).
Cite all sources of information! When in doubt, cite the source. Paraphrasing also requires a citation.
I highly recommend using the APA Publication Manual, 6th edition.
Use of Direct Quotes
I discourage the overutilization of direct quotes in DQs and assignments at the Masters’ level and deduct points accordingly.
As Master’s level students, you must be able to critically analyze and interpret information from journal articles and other resources. Simply restating someone else’s words does not demonstrate an understanding or critical analysis of the content.
It is best to paraphrase content and cite your source.

Late Policy
The university’s policy on late assignments is a 10% penalty PER DAY LATE. This also applies to late DQ replies.
Please communicate with me if you anticipate having to submit an assignment late. I am happy to be flexible, with advance notice. We may be able to work out an extension based on extenuating circumstances.
If you do not communicate with me before submitting an assignment late, the GCU late policy will be in effect.

Per policy, no assignments are accepted after the last day of class. Any assignment submitted after midnight on the last day of class will not be accepted for grading.
