Nursing theories and change management theories form a critical part of healthcare and patient care. Through these theories, nurses can get foundations upon which to base and build various aspects and strategies for supporting healthcare outcomes (Smith, 2019). The nursing theory and change management theory selected are the goal attainment theory and Lewin’s change model theory.
These two theories can be used in the formulation of strategies for leading, managing, stewarding, and collaborating within the context of the DPI project. The goal attainment theory’s fundamental principle is that nursing care is transactional; health is attained through the nurse-patient relationship (Butts & Rich, 2021). In this case, the nurse and patient’s goals and functions should be in line with each other.
As a result, the nurse and patient should have a mutual understanding of the needs, objectives, and expected outcomes of the preventive bundle and related interventions. Therefore, I will use this theory to lead the patients into adhering to the proposed intervention to improve their outcomes by ensuring that an appropriate nurse-patient relationship is built.

Kurt Lewin’s theory will also be applied in stewarding and collaborations within the context of the DPI project. Through the use of the theory’s principles, an urgent need for change will be created among the staff to trigger collaboration with the main focus on improving patient outcomes (Hussain et al.,2018). The staff will also be encouraged to be stewards of the change, as their full support is required if the proposed intervention is to succeed.
This will be achieved through an effective communication strategy. The strategy will also be key to coalition building and health advocacy. Through effective communication, the relevant staff will be persuaded and have the belief that their input and participation are important hence coalition building and participation in health advocacy for better patient outcomes.

Healthcare policies and developed practices form an integral part of patient care and improve patient outcomes. These healthcare policies and practices can be advanced through various strategies, such as lobbying. One of the policies that have been advanced through lobbying efforts at the national level is the APHA breastfeeding policy. This is a policy that was backed by scientific evidence that breastmilk is the most important food for infants.
Therefore, appropriate strategies should be used to eliminate barriers to breastfeeding (Payton et al.,2022). In the last few years, APHA has tried to coordinate with government agencies to come up with campaigns that promote breastfeeding in health centers and hospitals. The policy recommends that breastfeeding should commence immediately after birth and exclusively breastfeed for the first six months.
This policy has played a critical role in the care of young babies. While many people don’t still subscribe to exclusive breastfeeding, therefore have been steps toward a positive direction. There have been campaigns to improve breastfeeding for at least two years and exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months (Segura-Pérez et al.,2021). The policy has influenced how children are taken care of.
There have been practice guidelines formulated in various practice settings to help improve breastfeeding. Breastfeeding has also formed a central part of various health promotions and campaign efforts run by local and national governments. The APHA policy has also addressed the urgent call to action and support breastfeeding locally and at the national levels.
Another impact of the policy is that in the last ten years, health authorities and bodies have been recommending the use of breastfeeding when a child is born (Morain et al.,2019). Such efforts have also impacted the care settings since the care settings have come up with educational initiatives and efforts to train and educate new mothers on the importance of breastfeeding.
