HCA 497 Week 1 DQ 2 Health Care Trends and Challenges
Evaluate the impact of at least two major trends that occurred in the U.S. health care system during the twentieth century that continue to significantly influence the access to health care in the twenty-first century. Identify the population groups that are affected the most and explain why this is the case.  How have these trends challenged health care organizations and their leaders?
A Sample Answer For the Assignment: HCA 497 Week 1 DQ 2 Health Care Trends and Challenges
One of the health care technology trends observed in my nursing practice is the increased use of telehealth. Mental health providers can now use telehealth through video conferencing, mobile Internet on smartphones, social media and wearable devices to monitor patients with mental health disorders (Connolly et al., 2022). For instance, in the facility, we use telehealth for outpatient visits, especially as the providers try to reduce the risk and exposure to COVID-19 pandemic’s contraction for patients.
Through mobile devices and apps, psychiatrists can monitor patients and get feedback about their status while virtual checks allow providers to offer more services based on patient’s needs and unique situations. However, despite their immense benefits, telehealth models encounter challenges that include non-existence of rules and frameworks to address their increased utilization and uniformity across care continuum (Sizer et al., 2022). Again, the usability and long-term sustainability of these aspects remain controversial because of security and privacy issues related to data management and compliance to existing legal frameworks like HITECH and HIPAA.

The possible benefit of telehealth includes improved access to care by patients. Telehealth enhances patient safety since providers can offer care remotely, especially when there are exacerbations. Providers also need to comply with HIPAA guidelines on data to avoid any legal repercussions (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2022). The risk of data violations and non-compliance remains the most prevalent in using telehealth.
The most promising healthcare technology trends that will impact nursing practice include the use of artificial intelligence and mobile apps for better primary care provision. AI-enabled technology offers rapid and exact diagnoses of diseases like cancer and improves diagnostic tests for better accuracy on the most effective interventions (Molfenter et al., 2021). Nurse practitioners from remote and underserved communities can leverage mobile apps to connect with patients and colleagues and develop common care plans to improve patient care outcomes.

The use of AI and mobile apps will enhance better patient outcomes and improve operational efficiencies in diverse settings. In their study, Lee and Yoon (2021) contend that artificial intelligence-supported systems are better than non-AI systems at detecting minute tissue growth and this improves the ability to handle such incidents by providers. Through the use of mobile apps, nurse practitioners can communicate with patients and develop care plans that integrate their needs and perspectives.
