Advancing nursing informatics through education, research, and practice in all roles and settings is the mission of The American Nursing Informatics Association (ANIA, 2019). I use nursing informatics and technology every day at the hospital while I am working, we use the barcode scanning system to give patients meds and also use electronic charting and implementation of any phone or protocol doctor’s orders that we use/put it. We have a witness system for high risk medications that there have been high amounts of nursing errors in the past, such as insulin, heparin, and chemotherapy drugs. Where another nurse has to witness what you drew up out of the vial and that it is the correct vial of medication to be given.
We are not allowed to share passwords to one another, as one other can use your password to access information they are not supposed to view and you will be the one getting in trouble for it. HIPPA violations are taken very seriously. According to Chamberlain College of Nursing, “To help prevent unauthorized viewing of patient records or other electronic data, passwords are issued to each employee who needs to access each particular system. This helps to provide data security (2018).”
An ethical issue I’ve seen at the hospital with the use of the witness system for example is sharing of the username/password with a coworker for the shift. Yes, it would be a lot easier and less time consuming by just charting somebody else’s username and password but this may result in errors being made that another set of eyes might have been able to catch. I have seen nurses give 100u of insulin instead of heparin, the nurse noticed within a few minutes after giving the patient the wrong vial of medication and the patient with some extra food/orange juice did just fine and didn’t bottom completely out. But it definitely could of caused the patient severe harm if not death if it hadn’t been caught. The witness did type in her own username and password but never looked at the medication before the other nurse gave it. So, both nurses got written up. Yes, I know it is kind of a pain to have a witness sign your medications but it was obviously placed there because errors have been made in regards to these medications. Which is why it got placed there in the first place. Some nurses may think you are a snub over it, but you could lose a patients life in a shortcut you make or lose your nursing license over it, not a step I am wanting to take.

3. Threaded Discussion Guiding Principles
The ideas and beliefs underpinning the threaded discussions (TDs) guide students through engaging dialogues as they achieve the desired learning outcomes/competencies associated with their course in a manner that empowers them to organize, integrate, apply and critically appraise their knowledge to their selected field of practice.
