Quantitative research is objective in nature and based on data that can be measured and analyzed statistically (Polit & Beck, 2017). The quantitative design looks at a topic of interest and researches how data changes once a variable or intervention is introduced. In a quantitative study, the researcher is concerned with cause and effect and looks at how often and to what extent society is impacted as a result of the situation in question. An advantage of this research design is the use of positivist paradigm which Polit (2017), describes as understanding the natural causes behind a phenomenon. Rahman (2017), speaks to positivist paradigm as an advantage to the quantitative study because objectivity is obtained when the person and reality are separated. The quantitative research design also utilizes a larger sample of the general population which makes data analysis much easier with the use of statistical software (Rahman, 2017). The use of a larger sample helps to ensure an accurate representation of the population is being studied and analyzed. An accurate representation allows the researcher to formulate interventions that could benefit a larger population. A disadvantage to this research design is tight control over the research parameters of the study and a narrow vision focused on objectivity (Polit, 2017). The positivist paradigm fails to connect the phenomena with its effect on the individual by incorporating personal experience within the situation. Utilization of a larger sample can simply look at a “snap-shot in time” and fail to reflect how the social reality is shaped and maintained through feelings and emotions over a period of time (Rahman, 2017). Quantitative research is less personal and removes the emotional aspect from the human perspective.
Qualitative research is subjective in nature and deals with feelings and thought from real life experiences (Polit, 2017).  Qualitative research looks at information from the human perspective and gathers data accordingly. The researcher is concerned with how the phenomena affected the person emotionally and relies heavily on the participant expressing their honest view of the circumstances. Qualitative research is usually on topics with very little information or known facts in circulation. An advantage to this research design is the information provides a deeper view into the thoughts, feelings, and actions of a participant when experiencing a certain phenomenon (Rahman, 2017). Culture norms are shaped by individuals expressing themselves and qualitative research can be instrumental in understanding how participants think. The sample size in qualitative research is usually smaller because they rely on key informants who are knowledgeable with lived experience of a certain phenomena (Polit, 2017). A disadvantage to this research design is researchers tend to focus on participants with expertise experience and can discount many testimonies within a general population placing limitations on the study’s findings because a true representation of the population is not observed (Rahman, 2017).  Many researchers encountered negative bias with qualitative research due to the smaller sample sizes and the subjectivity of the data which relies on participants experiences rather than imperative information on the subject (Rahman, 2017).

Research is categorized as quantitative or qualitative in nature.  Quantitative research employs the use of numbers and accuracy while qualitative research focuses on lived experiences and human perception (Rutberg & Bouikidis, 2018).  There are some advantages and disadvantages to both forms of research queries.  The common goal of both is to conclude with positive, well-designed results that promotes change or introduces an intervention that is accurate and useful.
Control over Study Conditions Research Approach: Advantage
Quantitative
One advantage with the control over study conditions with quantitative research approach is the way the data is collected.  One form of research method that is used is the use of surveys for collection of data.  With the use of surveys, data can be analyzed in an easy and fast manner, therefore consumption of time is less. The quantitative research approach consists of less time consumption, which allows a large amount of data to be collected.
Qualitative
Qualitative research allows gathering of more in-depth data.  Its use of in-depth, one-on-one interviews allows gaining a better understanding of collected data, thus allowing a better understanding of complex situations (Rutberg & Boukidis, 2018).
Control over Study Conditions Qualitative Research Approach: Disadvantage
Quantitative
A disadvantage with the control over study conditions with quantitative research approach is that research is less in-depth.  The observation of collected data and pertinent information can be overlooked with this form of research.  The results can become vague and useless to the research.   This may cause a waste of time and resources, if the data is not reviewed for the intended outcome and accuracy.
Qualitative
A disadvantage of qualitative is its low credibility due to an inability to quantify predictors (Rutberg & Bouikidis, 2018).  For example, the inability to give percentages of an unwarranted event’s chance of reoccurrence in the future.
Extending or Generalizing results from a sample or larger group or population with quantitative research approach:
Advantage:
Because quantitative research uses a larger population, a larger volume of data is collected, a broader study can be made with more subjects to be reviewed, thus allowing more generalization to occur (Rutberg & Boukidis, 2018).
Disadvantage:
The results are based on quantity and most participants will not offer much insight into their thoughts, causing a lack of reliable context (Rutberg & Boukidis, 2018).
Extending or Generalizing results from a sample or larger group or population with qualitative research approach:
Advantage:
Qualitative usually collects data through one –on –one interviews, focus groups, and discussions (Rutberg & Boukidis, 2018). The sample sizes are smaller allowing for a more in-depth collection of data to be utilized for research.
Disadvantage:
The use of a smaller sample size makes it difficult for this research method to generalize the results of the qualitative study.

Your response needs to be a minimum of 150 words (not including your list of references)
There needs to be at least TWO references with ONE being a peer reviewed professional journal article.

Participation Guidelines
