What is 1 crisis or traumatic experience that has happened to your client, and how has it affected them? If you do not believe that your client has experienced trauma/crisis, what is one crisis/traumatic experience that could arise if the client does not receive proper care?

My client experienced many traumas in his life starting with his father being incarcerated. With his father being incarcerated he had to essentially take on the role of the man of the house which is a big role for such a young child especially when the mother was an alcoholic. The second trauma was the client having to see his mother be an alcoholic to the point of losing her life to the addiction and leaving him alone with his grandmother.

Discuss 2 self-care techniques you would use to manage the emotional stress you would face as a social worker (Ex: hobbies, socializing, diet, exercise, etc.). Why do you think those two would help you the most?

I would definitely use hiking as a way of not only stress relief but also as a meditation process in order to allow myself to be one with myself as it is many times that we lose yourself to our busy daily schedules. It is good to just take in the present moment without any other distractions. I would also make sure to hang out with friends as a lot of the times we are busy with work that we forget to have fun and just relax and catch up with our loved ones.

How does the criminal justice system play a role in your client’s life currently? How would you work with your client to prevent any future legal/justice issues?

It does play a role to an extent as his father is incarcerated. However, he is not directly having to deal with the justice system as he is still a minor. However, if my client falls into the temptations of drugs and alcohol he could potentially be dealing with the justice system and doing some time himself. However, in order to prevent this, I would educate him on the consequences of addictions and misbehavior that could get him into legal trouble. I would also make sure to offer information on support groups for minors his age so that he knows he’s not the only one going through a hard time.

What is one question that you have about your case study/client and its relation to this week’s module material?

How can I make sure that the trauma suffered by my client doesn’t affect him in the future? As this can many times lead them into the justice system again.
