What is a Cultural Artifact?
A cultural artifact is an item created by humans that reveals valuable information about their culture. Cultural artifacts include objects such as old or new tools, sculptures, ceramics, pottery, works of art, monuments, written matter such as song lyrics, poems, books or letters, photographs, food dishes, kitchen utensils, jewelry, textiles, and clothing the range of cultural artifacts is vast!
THE ONE RULE IS THAT THE CULTURAL ARTIFACT YOU CHOOSE MUST BE A PHYSICAL THING.
Guidelines and instructions:
· Choose a Cultural Artifact from your own life / family / community (Middle east) that has cultural significance. This can be a physical object, or a photograph or image of the artifact.
· Keep in mind that cultural significance is not the same thing as personal significance. Your object should have importance to your family, your cultural community, and your homeland, representing your beliefs, values, or traditions.
· Conduct research regarding the history and cultural significance of the artifact you have chosen.
· Write a 13-page description of your artifact based on the guidelines above, including the origin of the artifact, historical facts and narratives, and its significance to you and your community. *Make sure to cite all quotes and research sources, and include a Works Cited page.
· Attach a jpg or image of your artifact to your written description.
· Format your paper with image attached as a PDF.
