Assignment: Academic Success and Professional Development Plan Part 3: Research Analysis
Week 3 | Part 3: Research Analysis
Studying the wellbeing of adults on social media platforms can help psychiatrist understand the long-term effects of using these platforms. There are several potential concerns that adults may experience on social media platforms, such as feeling isolated or lonely, comparing themselves to others, or experiencing cyberbullying. These negative experiences can have a significant impact on an adult’s mental wellbeing.
The goal of this type of research is to better understand how to support adults in their use of social media platforms so that they can maintain healthy mental wellbeing. The purpose of this part of assignment is to identify the topic of interest for further study and identify and analyze one peer-reviewed research article focused on this topic.
Topic of Interest: Impact of Social Media Platforms on the Mental Wellbeing of Adolescents
Step 1: Research Analysis

In other words, concepts of reliability and validity were used to assess the results of the study. Research Analysis Matrix Add more rows if necessaryStrengths of the ResearchLimitations of the ResearchRelevancy to Topic of InterestNotes Use of a large sample size and use of validated measures of social media use and mental healthThe measures were self-reported and there was limited information on the types of social media platforms used. The objective of the study was to investigate the association between social media use and adolescent mental health. The objective and purpose of the study directly relate to the topic of interest. The article also addresses different aspects of the topic of interest. The study found that greater levels of social media use were associated with worse mental health outcomes in adolescents, including lower self-esteem and higher levels of depression and anxiety. These findings support previous research that has shown negative associations between social media use and mental health outcomes (Kelly et al., 2018). There was the use of primary data from the cohort studyBecause of the availability of data, researchers did not take into account some factors that were hypothesized to be on the pathway between poor mental health and social media useThe hypothesis and the research questions all relates to the topic of interest and provide relevant information that can be used in addressing different aspects of the research topic. The limitation or weaknesses in this study cannot alter the findings. In other words, findings are reliable and valid.
Step 2: Summary of Analysis
To identify and analyze peer-reviewed research, I often start by looking for relevant databases, such as the National Library of Medicine’s PubMed or Web of Science. I then use keywords to help me narrow my search results. The keywords I use depend on the research question at hand, in this case, I used “social media use” “mental well-being” “adolescents” I then determine the relevance of the information by reading the abstracts and/or full-text articles. If the article is relevant, I will analyze it in detail. If it is not relevant, I will discard it.

The strategies I would use that I found to be effective in finding peer-reviewed research include:-Looking for journals that are published by well-known and respected scientific organizations, -Looking for journals that use a peer-review process in which articles are sent to other experts in the field for review before being published, -Making sure the journal is listed in an online database such as PubMed, which is maintained by the National Library of Medicine.- Finally, I would use keyword search to identify research studies with relevant information on the topic of interest.
One great resource that I intend to use in future for finding peer-reviewed research is the National Library of Medicine’s PubMed database. To find peer-reviewed research on a given topic in this database, an individual simply need to enter keywords related to that topic into the PubMed search bar, and then filter your results by “peer-reviewed.”
Assignment: Academic Success and Professional Development Plan Part 3: Research Analysis Conclusion
The identified study showed that there was a significant positive correlation between social media use and all four outcomes (anxiety, depression, self-esteem, body dissatisfaction). However, it should be noted that the findings of this study should be interpreted with caution due to its cross-sectional design. The hypothesis and the research questions all relates to the topic of interest and provide relevant information that can be used in addressing different aspects of the research topic. The findings from this study were reliable and valid given the methodology and the primary data that were used in the process.

I found your article interesting and appreciated your honest feedback, on my unit, many of the cases involving adolescents involve trauma of which were physical or sexual in nature. I believe that the article topic is appropriate because its a common issue, relevant in society and the community.
Finding the right topic and searching the web database in the proper way is key, nevertheless it’s a skill that improves over time. Scholarly journals can also be of great use to you, according to Walden university Library (n.d.) scholarly journal “purpose is to advance scholarship in that field by publishing in-depth research studies. Most scholarly journals are also peer reviewed. In fact, in a number of library databases, when you limit your results to only scholarly journals you also limit your results to only peer reviewed journals”. Gaining in-depth knowledge from the research studies can be of great use in future papers and the added fact that one is able to narrow down searches to peer-reviews journals is beneficial to scholarly writing. Although I am un- familiar with ScienceDirect, I thank you for your honest feedback and will consider learning more about it’s resources to see whether or not it will be a helpful tool for me in the future.
Family Nurse Practitioners are of increasing importance in the healthcare industry with the shortage of primary care provider. This is particularly important in rural and underserved areas such as South Dakota which is one of the most rural populations within the states in the United States. Over half of the people living in South Dakota live in rural areas (51% of the state’s population) and with the rising difficulty in recruiting primary care providers to practice in these areas, people in such areas face serious problem with healthcare access, as well as affordability as such area have large population with low income that make it difficult to meet their healthcare needs (Gibson et al., 2021). This article is particularly interesting to me as it provides one of the areas where family nurse practitioners can make a difference in the healthcare industry as well as the communities that they serve.
The article cited above was searched from CINAHL Plus with Full Text database. CINAHL is one of the most widely used databases where information on nursing research and publications can be found. As such, it can be used by almost any nursing specialty as it contains lots of information that can help many areas of nursing and other healthcare practitioners. It was relatively easy for me to search for this article because I started by logging into the Walden University library where the database was selected, and the search was made. I will highly recommend this database to my fellow students as well as nursing coworkers since the database has a wide variety of information that can help in research in not only nursing but other areas within the healthcare industry.

Module 3 | Part 3: Research Analysis
The analysis of research articles and their application in academic success and professional development is critical for advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) specializing in mental health issues. Research analysis provides a platform for researchers to have an enhanced understanding of the different topics of interest to attain deliver quality patient care and attain better outcomes (Abiri et al., 2022). Obesity is a national public health issue and have significant effects on mental health. Imperatively, I have identified a topic of interest for further study. I have also researched and identified one peer-reviewed research article focused on the topic and identified a peer-reviewed research article on the effects of obesity on mental health and analyzed it. The purpose of this part of the academic plan paper is to present the results of these efforts.
Step 1: Research Analysis
Complete the table below
Topic of Interest: Effects of Obesity on Mental Health Research Article: Include full citation in APA format, as well as link or search details (such as DOI) van Vuuren, C. L., Wachter, G. G., Veenstra, R., Rijnhart, J. J., Van der Wal, M. F., Chinapaw, M. J., & Busch, V. (2019). Associations between overweight and mental health problems among adolescents, and the mediating role of victimization. BMC public health, 19(1), 1-10. DOI: https://doi.org/10.1186/s12889-019-6832-z Professional Practice Use: One or more professional practice uses of the theories/concepts presented in the article The article presents critical information to help professionals deal with obesity and its effects on mental health, especially among adolescents. These concepts include the use of mediation analysis, clustering of measurements, and a consideration of the different aspects of obesity among adolescents that are applicable to the general population. The concept of victimization and promotion of adolescent mental health issues are essential to attaining better patient outcomes. Research Analysis Matrix Add more rows if necessary Strengths of the Research Limitations of the Research Relevancy to Topic of Interest Notes Used a large population sample Explored only one aspect of the interaction between obesity and mental health The article demonstrates the significance of obesity on mental health among adolescents. The research article is critical to the overall understanding of mental health issues affecting adolescents. Use of self-reported data implying reliability of the information There are also other possible mediators It is relevant to the topic since adolescents suffer considerably from mental health disorders. Psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners (PMHNPs) need increased understanding about these issues and incorporate them in their plans of care. The duration of the study of over three years and using three cohorts increases the reliability The study does not categorize the types of victimization and the level of the issue The study shows the importance of understanding the causal relation between obesity and mental health aspects The article is integral in the development of interventions to improve overall mental status of adolescents. In-depth analysis of the different aspects of mental concepts associated with obesity and the resultant effects on the adolescents The study does not also identify the cause of the issue among the adolescents The study demonstrates the need for better interventions by researchers to understand obesity as a health problem The limitations of the study cannot impact the findings implying that they are valid and reliable and entail stakeholders making necessary changes to improve mental health. The article also applies an evidence-based intervention to improve its validity The authors assert that need for more research to identify the causal relation between overweight and mental health challenges. The article is relevant to the topic of interest as it shows some of the limitations in research that The focus on the concept of victimization is essential to nurses in mental health settings to understand the level of effects of the problem It does not show the specific weight based victimization implying that it may arise due to other factors. The article demonstrates the need for mental health providers to develop more programs and initiatives aimed at reducing the susceptibility of adolescents to mental health challenges. Use of multilevel analyses enabled the researchers to leverage all accessible and available information from participants
Step 2: Summary of Analysis
The identification and analysis of peer-reviewed research article requires one to have an effective strategy and deploy relevant databases and search terminologies to get the relevant research sources. In this case, I began by looking at the relevant databases and journals as provided in the university library. These included National Library of Medicine’s PubMed, CINHAL complete and Web of Science. I also focused on articles concerned with adolescent’s mental health issues and obesity like the BMC Public Health. The next step was to narrow my research search results by using key terms and worlds like “obesity and mental health,” “mental health disorders associated with overweight,” “adolescents and mental health,” and effects of poor weight on mental health among teens.” I then determined the relevance of the information from the article through reading the abstract and full-text articles. I also ensured that the articles that I got are full-text articles to obtain all possible information, especially the limitations of the study. I then analyzed the article based on its relevance to the topic of interest. I also ensured that the articles were published in the last five years.
Having effective strategies is essential in research analysis. In this case, the two strategies that I used include getting journal articles published by well-known and respected organizations and researchers to attain their credibility and reliability. The second strategy was using the peer-review process that entails having the articles evaluated by other experts within the professional before their publication in the respective journals (Mei et al., 2020). For instance, ensuring that the articles are listed in an online database like PubMed which is run by the National Library of Medicine was a critical part of the strategies to get quality sources during the research process. I also used keywords and terms in the search to identify research articles and studies that had relevant information on the topic of interest.
The PubMed, especially its online database, is a great resource that I intend to use in getting peer-reviewed research study articles. Managed by the National Library of Medicine, this resource has many articles that are peer-reviewed and full-text to help one generate sufficient information on their research topic and interest. Getting peer-reviewed research on any topic on this database implores one to enter keywords related to the topic in the database and filter the results using the terms “peer-reviewed.”
Conclusion
Research analysis is a core aspect of getting resources that address topics of interest to researchers in any situation. In this case, the identified article shows a significant relationship between obesity and mental health disorders among adolescents. Imperatively, PMHNPs can leverage the resource to improve interventions aimed at addressing mental health issues among adolescents in their practice environment. The findings from this study are not only reliable but also valid and implore providers to address the issue in the most effective manner to reduce adverse effects associated with obesity in mental health.
